Japan’s best-selling games of April 2025 – The Hundred Line in the top five
New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of April 2025.
The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy was the notable new release of the month, selling just over 22,000 copies at retail. Overall sales were on the lower side. The best-selling game was Super Mario Party Jamboree, which moved just over 30,000 copies.

3. [NSW] The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy – 22,675 / NEW
4. [NSW] Minecraft – 22,079 / 3,867,336
5. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 18,248 / 6,311,725
Nintendo regained its position in April as the publisher with the most amount of games sold at retail. The company was responsible for 222,000 pieces of software sold. The next closest was Capcom at 40,000 units.
Also in April, Nintendo Switch is back on top as the top hardware. However, sales did drop from 171,923 in March to 110,566. This is partially due to the tracking period – there’s one less week of data in April – but Switch 2 is just on the horizon.
